[Main Composition] Oxytetracycline
[Description] This drug is a light yellow tablet.
[Drug Interactions] (1) Synergistic effects occur when the drug is used in combination with macrolides (e.g., tylosin); co-administration with colistin may also produce synergism via enhancing bacterial absorption of this drug.
(2) Its concurrent administration with antacids containing calcium, magnesium, aluminum, iron-containing medications, or foods such as milk will reduce its absorption, leading to decreased plasma concentration as the drug can form complexes with divalent and trivalent cations.
(3) When taken with sodium bicarbonate, the solubility in the stomach, absorption rate, and tubular reabsorption of oxytetracycline will decrease, while excretion will accelerate.
(4) Its concomitant use with diuretics may increase blood urea nitrogen level.
[Indications] This drug is a tetracycline antibiotic, indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmas, etc.
[Dosage and Administration] Oral administration (single dose, per 10 kg body weight): 2~5 tablets for pigs, foals, calves, and lambs; 5~10 tablets for poultry; 3~10 tablets for dogs. Administer 2~3 times daily for 3~5 consecutive days.
[Adverse Reactions] (1) Local irritation, especially when administered on an empty stomach, which can cause certain irritation to the digestive tract.
(2) Intestinal flora disturbance. Herbivores (e.g., horses, cattle) can develop vitamin deficiencies in mild cases, and in severe cases, it can lead to secondary infection, even fatal diarrhea.
(3) Impacts on dental and skeletal development.
(4) Certain damaging effects on the liver and kidneys, with occasional fatal nephrotoxicity.
[Precautions] (1) Contraindicated in animals with severe hepatic or renal dysfunction.
(2) Contraindicated in pregnant and lactating animals, as well as young animals.
(3) Not recommended for oral administration in adult ruminants and equus. Long-term use may induce secondary infection.
(4) Avoid concurrent administration with dairy products or high calcium feed.
[Withdrawal Period] 7 days for cattle, sheep/goats, and pigs, and 5 days for poultry; 72 h of milk discard period; 2 days of egg discard period.
