The methanol-fueled dual-fuel vessel “COSCO Shipping Lily” was named and unveiled.
On March 6, the bow of the ship was adorned in red, as a giant vessel quietly docked by the Yangtze River, the "COSCO Shipping Lily" was officially named and unveiled. This is also the final piece in the first batch of 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel series container ships built by Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for COSCO Shipping Lines.
The series of ships built by Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry began with the naming of the first ship, "COSCO Shipping Yangpu," on February 18, 2025. Over the following year, the "COSCO Shipping Carnation" and "COSCO Shipping Panama" were successively delivered and put into service, operating on COSCO Shipping Lines' Far East to Southwest US and Far East to East US routes, with stable performance and a good green reputation.
With the completion and naming of the "COSCO Shipping Lily," all four giant ships in the series are now in place, each embarking on their respective missions.
With a total length of 366 meters and a beam of 51 meters, the deck is larger than three standard football fields, and it has a cargo capacity of 16,136 TEU, yet it can reduce carbon emissions by about 8.9% compared to conventional energy ships. Additionally, an intelligent central control system enables full-process intelligent management of ship operations.
The green core lies in its "purity." Equipped with the world's first domestically produced WinGD methanol dual-fuel main engine, it also features a methanol dual-fuel generator and a marine dual-fuel boiler. The "pin" shaped methanol tank layout optimizes space utilization, and the intelligent ship control system enhances the level of intelligence. Compared to traditional energy ships, it can reduce CO₂ emissions by about 120,000 tons annually, with an EEDI more than 50% better than the baseline.
On February 18, 2025, the first ship of the 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel series container ships, "COSCO Shipping Yangpu," built by Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, was successfully named.
The "COSCO Shipping Lily" is expected to be deployed on the South China to Southwest US e-commerce express SEA line, injecting new green capacity into the Shanghai to Los Angeles/Long Beach green corridor.
