Vietnam Rice Exports Reach USD 2.91 Billion as Export Prices Begin to Recover

According to a report by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), in the first eight months of 2026, Vietnam’s rice export volume is estimated at 6.03 million tonnes, with export turnover nearing USD 2.91 billion, down 5% and 10.7% respectively compared to the same period last year. Encouragingly, rice export prices have shown signs of recovery since July, raising expectations for improved export revenue by year-end.
January–August 2026 Export Data
According to statistics from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, rice export volume in the first eight months of 2026 is estimated at 6.03 million tonnes, down 5% year-on-year. Export turnover is projected at nearly USD 2.91 billion, a decline of 10.7%. The average export price is estimated at USD 481.5 per tonne, down 5.9%.
July Prices Turn Positive
In July 2026 alone, the average export price reached USD 511 per tonne, achieving year-on-year growth for the first time in the year (up 5.8%), sending a positive signal for the export outlook in the remaining months.
Full-Year 2026 Forecast
For the full year 2026, Vietnam’s total rice export revenue is projected to reach approximately USD 3.94 billion, down about 4% year-on-year, primarily due to the low average export prices in the early months. However, the price recovery trend since July 2026 is expected to drive improved export revenue in the final months of the year.
Asian Market: Indian and Thai Rice Prices Rise
In the Asian market, Indian rice export prices have continued their upward trend, rising to their highest level in a year. The price of India’s 5% broken parboiled rice rose sharply from USD 364–369 per tonne last week to USD 366–371 per tonne, while 5% broken white rice prices held at USD 362–367 per tonne.
In Thailand, 5% broken rice was trading at USD 465 per tonne, up from the previous USD 450–460 per tonne. Exporters attributed the price increase to strong demand from the Philippines due to insufficient domestic production, while Thai rice supply is also expected to decline in the near term.
