China Bans Over‑Ripe Myanmar Bananas（Sep 2）
China Customs "Red Light": Overripe Yellow Bananas from Myanmar No Longer Allowed
When Myanmar exports bananas to China, bananas that are overly ripe and yellow will no longer be accepted, as the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has issued a relevant announcement. According to the regulations, bananas exported to China must comply with phytosanitary requirements, and only fresh bananas are permitted for import.
Myanmar is required to audit banana plantations and packaging facilities intended for export to China, subject to joint confirmation and approval by both China and Myanmar. Additionally, for export shipments that do not meet the relevant standards of the announcement, registration information must include the name, address, and registration number to ensure accurate traceability of origin.
The Myanmar side shall submit a list of registered plantations and packaging facilities to the Chinese side before each export season. Following review and confirmation by the Chinese side, the list will be published on the GACC website and updated regularly.
The announcement also states that imported bananas will be subject to quarantine inspection, including checks for the presence of pests, packaging cleanliness, and phytosanitary certificates.
If quarantine pests of particular concern to China, dangerous pests newly occurring within Myanmar, or soil is detected, the shipment will be subject to disinfestation treatment, return, or destruction. The announcement officially takes effect on September 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, the GACC announced that upon the implementation date of this announcement, GACC Announcement No. 49 of 2022 shall be simultaneously repealed.
